Overall:

A pro-active atmosphere in general, with student-friendly doctors.

Schedule:

Handovers happen somewhere between 8 - 8:30.

Dr. Fadil is in charge of making sure things go well and expects students to be there by 8 am. Ward rounds begin at 8:30 usually, although can be delayed at times. You will be rounding with multiple consultants and usually finish all rounds by 11:30 am on a usual day.

11:30-1 is usually the most flexible time to go on your own and take histories/physicals. Alternatively, you can choose to spend that time with the hospitalists through teaching sessions with them. Dr. Sami is by far the most helpful hospitalist we found during our time and it's very helpful to sit with him and go over any learning topics. Dr. Rizwi and Dr. Tesse are also a great asset to this team.

1-2 is your lunch break and the cafeteria is near the ED on the ground floor. The doctor's lounge has a complimentary coffee machine and is a good resting place too.

2-4 pm is your dedicated clinics/ER time depending on the timetable provided for that week. Please be on time and I can't emphasis this enough.

Other notes:

Wednesday mornings have CME presentations if you're interested to attend. You will be getting weekly emails on that.

In terms of clinical learning, expect to have a good background of common viral infections namely RSV, Adenovirus and Influenza.

Respiratory infections are the cream of the ward and most of your "hands-on" experiences will come from using the stethoscope more than anything else. (never forget your stethos!)

Lastly, in terms of theory learning, the Thursday sessions are quite heavy with back-to-back lectures from different clinicians (8am-12pm).

These sessions form the core of your theory knowledge along with the weekly aquifer cases.
